Marble is among the most charming natural stones on the market. People have used marble as a countertop for centuries—and not only for its breathtaking beauty but also for its durability (after we seal it, of course).
When it comes to marble design, most people imagine a white surface with a few dark veins running through the stone. Although that’s the most common design choice, it’s not the only choice for marble lovers out there. Read on to find out three surprising marble countertop colors and how we at Lopsang Construction Service can help you get the marble of your dreams.
Black Marble
Black marble is one of the most sought-after marble countertop colors. The bold, dark color forms an intense backdrop for the light-colored veins to pop right off the counter. These veins come in various colors, including white, beige, gold, or light grey.
Black marble is a naturally occurring version of the classic white marble. Although it’s natural, it’s much more expensive than the typical white marble countertops. Black marble also takes more care than white marble.
Black marble varieties all have specific names depending on the type of marble it is and where people mine it. Miners quarry the most expensive black marble, Portoro, in Italy. Portoro’s gold veins are highly sought after. Other kinds of black marble include Marquina Black, Blue Violet, and Saint-Laurent, all of which are unique among marble countertop colors.
Brown Marble
You have probably seen beige- or cream-colored marble countertops before, but have you ever seen marble countertops with a rich mahogany brown? Many people think that if they don’t like beige or cream countertops, they won’t like brown either. After you see the rich tones in brown marble, you may have to change your mind.
Brown marble shares the same veins as other marbles, but it enjoys the rich colors of brown granites. Sequoia Brown, a marble mined in various parts of the world, has a unique design. It has an abundance of veins, which together make the marble look like it has wood grain. The wood grain design gives the marble its name.
Brown marbles, like other marble countertop colors, are susceptible to scratching and water damage. Always make sure to regularly seal your marble countertops, regardless of their color. By sealing the countertop regularly, your marble will last for decades with only minimal signs of wear and tear.
Green Marble
Green marble is one of the most exciting marble countertop colors. Some people find green to be a soothing or relaxing color, which can help give your kitchen a more tranquil feeling. We think green marble is exciting because it’s an extraordinarily unique color. Trust us when we say you’ll be the only one of your friends with green marble countertops in their kitchen.
Green has many pleasant shades, and so do green marble countertops. Whether you enjoy darker greens or lighter shades, green marble has various choices to fit your taste.
In darker shades, like Forest Green or Empress Green, the veins are almost white. They jump off the counter and make some of the most unique designs we’ve ever seen in marble. Lighter green marbles usually have a white or cream base with green veins.
Other Colors
All the marble we previously mentioned is naturally occurring, but that’s not the only way to get marble countertop colors. One of the best features of marble countertops is the ability to dye them to change the shade of the stone. The dying process takes care and patience, but you can achieve almost any color of your choosing at the end of the day.
The process is rather simple on paper, but it takes a lot of practice to make it perfect. Essentially, we apply dye to the marble surface in a thin layer after we heat the marble with a heat gun. Heating the marble allows more dye to enter the porous surface.
After waiting for the layer to dry, we apply another layer of dye, repeating the process until we achieve the color of your choosing. After applying the final coat of dye and waiting for it to dry, we finally apply a sealant so the colors stay bright and your marble doesn’t show any wear and tear.
